WHAT:
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, District 2 City Commissioner Tony Ortiz and Orlando Fire Chief Charlie Salazar invite the community to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Orlando Fire Department Station 6, nicknamed "In the Air or on the Ground."
The new 15,913-square-foot station will be positioned in a more centralized location to serve the surrounding businesses and residential neighborhoods with a state-of-the-art facility, equipped with the latest in technology and space to accommodate multiple, specialized units and equipment. The station will relocate and replace the current Fire Station 6 on East Robinson Street. The new station is expected to be completed by the fall of 2025 and is part of the city's neighborhood infrastructure improvements projects that aim to better serve the area's growing population.
The station will be home to 36 firefighters, house four bays and three fire apparatus - an Engine, a Tower Truck and a Rescue. The new modern facility was designed to promote firefighter health and safety while providing top-rated service, functionality and rapid response times to the community it serves. Features include:

Gradual emergency tones to reduce heart-rate response.

A decontamination room with a shower and two airlocks with pressurization to further keep potential carcinogens out of the living quarters.

Individual sleeping quarters and active crew quarters that have acoustic separation to allow for rest and recuperation.

Lactation room for nursing mothers.

A gymnasium for firefighters to workout out and maintain a healthy lifestyle for top performance.

An outdoor space where firefighters can continue to train on fire tactics.

Open kitchens and dining rooms to dine together and build camaraderie.

ORLANDO FIRE DEPARTMENT BACKGROUND:
Established in 1885, the Orlando Fire Department began as a group of dedicated volunteers serving to protect the lives and property of the 1,666 citizens of Orlando. Today that department has grown to 600 members who annually serve millions of visitors, resident and businesses in Orlando. The Orlando Fire Department is rated in the top one percent of fire departments in the United States and is the only fire department in the state of Florida to have ISO 1 classification, International Fire Accreditation, Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP) certification, Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS) and ACE accreditation (911/Communications Center).
