McConnell Helps Secure More than $10 Million for Water Infrastructure Improvements in Hazard, Kentucky

Press Releases

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced today the City of Hazard will receive $10.7 million for improvements to the Coal Fields Regional Industrial Park. This federal funding will help replace an existing water line from the Buckhorn water treatment plant, expanding water capacity for current occupants on site and for future development in the region.

Today's federal grant is distributed through the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration (EDA) and funded by the Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2023. Senator McConnell, a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, contacted the EDA in support of the City of Hazard's competitive federal grant application and advocated for EDA funding in the annual government funding bill.

"Many of my constituents in Hazard, Kentucky are still struggling to recover after the devastating floods that hit the region in 2022. I'm grateful to see these federal funds help upgrade this essential service to the community and set the stage for future growth in the region. My top priority remains to help our state rebuild and ensure the people of Eastern Kentucky have what they need from the federal government," said Senator McConnell.
