Thanks to all who engaged in this public education campaign about proper leaf management. Our steadfast citizen volunteers hope you'll continue to keep those phosphorus-rich leaves on your property and out of the streets and storm drains to increase your soil's health and protect our Lake Monona. This campaign tracked over 300 points of public contact, and the number of folks who otherwise interacted with this important information is certainly far larger. Many thanks to our Sustainability Committee citizen volunteers Kristin Gunther and Jamie McDevitt, and to our Public Works contact Jeff Johnson.
Over the coming weeks, we'll be spotlighting here on FB some of the beautiful artwork from our youngest of community members who entered the coloring contest portion of this campaign. Today we want to introduce everyone to the new names for our three, hard-working Monona leaf trucks! The trucks will be adorned with decals of their new names
" Keanu Leaves " submitted by David Savino, on Wallace Avenue.
" Mr. Snuffleafagus " submitted by Annie Bernards of Midmoor Road. This one is a hybrid of two very similar entries "Mr. Suckitupagus" from alder Patrick DePula and Annie's "Snuffleafagus" Clearly, many of you were thinking along the same lines.
And finally, our grand prize winner is:
" Frau Leaf-er-hosen " submitted by Marc-Jean Ruel from Schluter Road. MJ originally submitted "Leaf-er-hosen" the top vote-getter and a few volunteers suggested this slight modification. Thanks for being a good sport! You're getting a ride in a Monona Leaf Truck! Whoo hoo!
All coloring contest participants and all who submitted an idea for a leaf truck name are invited to meet a Leaf Truck on Wednesday, November 27 (a no-school day) from 9:30-10:00 AM at the Public Works Garage on Edna Taylor Parkway. For questions, please contact Thor Jeppson at City Hall at [email protected]
Thanks again, and - keep those leaves out of our streets and storm drains!
