RCMP responds to report of single vehicle crash in Portugal Cove South; investigation underway

On Sunday, August 18, RCMP NL responded to a single vehicle crash in Portugal Cove South on the southern shore; the report came in at approximately 11:00 a.m.

The vehicle left the road, crashed into a ditch and burst into flames. Witnesses assisted the driver, who sustained injuries in the crash, in exiting the burning vehicle. The passenger was ejected and has serious injuries. Both were brought to hospital by Emergency Medical Services for medical attention and remain in hospital at this time. A blood demand was provided by police at hospital and a blood sample obtained from the driver. The RCMP is continuing its investigation to determine if charges, including Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm, will be laid.
