NEWARK, NJ (October 10, 2024) - Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children's Hospital of New Jersey, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, hosted its 19^th Annual Celebrating Newark: Partners in Progress awards gala at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center on October 9, 2024.

This year's gala celebrated the many innovative community outreach initiatives that the hospital has embarked upon and sustained over the years. In attendance were, 1986 NY Giants Captain and Super Bowl XXI Champion George Martin and NBA basketball legend, businessman and entrepreneur Earvin "Magic" Johnson, who delivered the keynote address.

The gala was co-chaired by Newark Beth Israel Board Chair Francis J. Giantomasi Esq., member of CSG Law and Kerri B. Levine, Principal, The Fidelco Group. Awards were presented to corporations, community partners and clinicians who have made an impact in the greater Newark area.

NBA basketball legend, businessman and entrepreneur Earvin "Magic" Johnson captivated the audience with his insights into entrepreneurship, philanthropy, and the game and business of basketball then and now at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children's Hospital of New Jersey's Celebrating Newark: Partners in Progress awards gala.

Mr. Martin received the Marc E. Berson Community award for his longstanding partnership with Newark Beth Israel Medical Center as host of its annual Ray Murphy Men's Health Night event, a community outreach program dedicated to addressing men's health in the greater Newark area.

This year's medical program award was presented to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children's Hospital of New Jersey clinicians who participate in community outreach events across the city of Newark, including the hospital's signature events such as Newark Beth Israel Medical Center's Women's Health Day, The Alma Beatty Health and Wellness Fair, and Ray Murphy Men's Health night. Two corporations received recognition for their investments into the Newark community.

Newark Beth Israel Medical Center recognized Monica Slater-Stokes and United Airlines for their annual holiday Fantasy Flight program. Every year, children are chosen to take a fantasy flight to the South Pole and meet Santa Claus. Children's Hospital of New Jersey at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center has been participating in the United Airlines Fantasy Flight program since 2012.

Monica Slater-Stokes, Managing Director, Corporate and Government Affairs, United Airlines receives the 2024 Newark Beth Israel Medical Center Partners in Progress Corporate Award for more than a decade of delivering the Fantasy Flight program to patients at Children's Hospital of New Jersey at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. In addition, SodexoMagic was honored for their commitment to hiring and sustaining a diverse workforce that is representative of the communities they serve. SodexoMagic, a Magic Johnson partnership, provides several support services to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center including, environmental services, dietary services, patient transport services and nursing assistant services.
