Pinellas County invites residents to Local Mitigation Strategy workshop

Pinellas County invites residents and business owners to join the Local Mitigation Strategy Workshop on Thursday, Oct. 17, from 6-7 p.m.

The LMS identifies natural hazards, such as floods and hurricanes, as well as man-made hazards, such as chemical spills and cyber attacks. It sets goals to reduce risks and minimize the loss of life, property and resources.

Open to all County residents, the workshop encourages attendees to share their feedback by completing a poll, reviewing updates to the plan and discussing hazards that affect their community. County staff will explain how the LMS is created and why it needs to be updated.

The LMS is not just a federal requirement; it's a resource that empowers the County to safeguard its residents and infrastructure against future hazards. Residents who participate in this workshop help ensure their communities remain eligible for critical hazard mitigation grants and benefits from lower flood insurance premiums.

This hurricane season demonstrates the importance of proactive disaster preparedness. Through collaboration with residents, businesses and local organizations, we will build a stronger, more resilient Pinellas County that is better equipped to handle future storms and emergencies.
