Professional Academic Advisor

Professional advisors will:

  • Provide high-quality, informed guidance to support and promote student academic success.
  • Serve as a point of referral for applicable university resources.
  • Identify and provide targeted, tailored advising services to support at-risk students who have demonstrated poor academic performance.
  • Provide high-quality, informed guidance to support and promote student academic success.

Career Coaches

Career coaches will:

  • Support students with making an informed career choice as well as exploring career options
  • Educate students on developing a resume and portfolio, researching employers, networking, and engaging in the internship/job search process using current technology.
  • Support students in connecting to and identifying sources for experiential education to advance learning focused on their careers and industries of interest.
  • Provides career guidance, professional development, and soft skills training that leads to successful transitioning from Prairie View into employment, graduate or professional school, military, or research opportunities.
  • Serve as a collaborative partner to internal and external stakeholders.

Financial Counselors

Financial counselors will:

  • Provide students with financial literacy related to budgeting, saving, and investing to enable them to make informed decisions about personal finances.
  • Partner with an academic advisor to suggest various academic strategies to help a student meet the financial aid satisfactory academic progress requirements for the retention of aid.
  • Provide outreach, guidance, and counseling about financial aid programs, eligibility requirements, financing options, billing questions, student bill payment options, University policies and procedures, and general financial principles.
  • Assists students in resolving conflicting information related to FAFSA/TASFA completion, investigates unusual situations, and works with appropriate university officials on implementing the appropriate outcome.
  • Serve as a collaborative partner to internal stakeholders.
