Congresswoman Schrier Tours Local Planned Parenthood Clinic, Highlights Need to Ensure Access to Care

PUYALLUP, WA- Yesterday, Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08) toured a local Planned Parenthood health center together with Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10). During her visit, Representative Schrier heard from staff about the impact of the Dobbs decision on Washington State and the healthcare workforce issues they've encountered. She also discussed her work in Congress to strengthen reproductive rights.

Following the Supreme Court's Dobbs decision, states across the country have enacted extreme abortion restrictions and outright bans. These restrictions have put the health and lives of millions of women at risk. Lawmakers have continued their attacks on women's health by targeting the long ago approved medication Mifepristone, and treatments like in vitro fertilization (IVF).

"Since the Supreme Court's Dobbs decision, reproductive rights have been under attack across the country. Clinics like the Planned Parenthood in Puyallup play an essential role in providing primary care for millions of women, and I'm proud to have met to discuss how we can work together to expand access to the full spectrum of reproductive care," said Congresswoman Schrier. "While extreme Republicans continue to attack all aspects of women's health care, I will continue to fight in Congress to restore reproductive rights nationwide."

"Planned Parenthood provides essential healthcare for patients," said Congresswoman Strickland. "I remain committed to ensuring that all women, regardless of where they live or their economic background, have equitable access to safe and affordable reproductive healthcare."

"We were excited to welcome Rep. Marilyn Strickland and Rep. Kim Shrier to our Puyallup Health Center yesterday. We are grateful for their strong history of support for bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom - especially as we witness the devastating effects of abortion bans in neighboring states," said Courtney Normand, State Director for Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates - Washington. "Rep. Strickland and Rep. Schier's continued championing of sexual and reproductive health has a positive ripple effect across our affiliate as Washington has stepped up to need the rising demand for essential health care, including abortion."

In the wake of the Dobbs decision, Representative Schrier has worked in Congress to strengthen women's access to reproductive care. Congresswoman Schrier has introduced the bicameral Let Doctors Provide Reproductive Health Care Act, which would protect health care providers in states where abortion is legal from laws that try to prevent them from providing reproductive health care services or make them liable for providing those services to patients from any other state.

Congresswoman Schrier has voted three times to make abortion legal nationwide, and will continue to work to restore Roe as the law of the land.
