US Department of Labor awards $800K to provide employment, training services for workers displaced by multiple layoffs, closures

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Department of Labor today awarded $800,000 to the Kansas Local Area I Workforce Investment Board, also known as Kansas WorkforceONE, to support employment and training services for people affected by multiple layoffs and closures between January 2024 and June 2024.

The department's Employment and Training Administrationoversees the award, which is the first increment of a National Dislocated Worker Grantof up to $2,072,227 that will allow Kansas WorkforceONE to provide retraining and skills development for dislocated workers seeking assistance in the 62 counties located in its service area.

Supported by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014, National Dislocated Worker Grants provide a state or local board with funding for direct services and assistance in areas experiencing a major economic dislocation event that leads to workforce needs exceeding available resources.
