Unrestrained Driver Killed in Crash in St. Bernard

Published: 09-05-2024 | Category: Troop B

Violet - On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, around 8:30 pm, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B were notified of a two-vehicle crash on LA 46 near Francke Place. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 23-year-old Kerry Guerra Jr. of St. Bernard.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Guerra was driving a 2001 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck east on LA 46, approaching Francke Place. At the same time, a 2013 Dodge Ram was also traveling east on LA 46 ahead of the Chevrolet. For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet struck the rear of the Dodge. The Chevrolet then ran off the road and struck a tree.

Guerra, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Dodge was properly restrained and uninjured. As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were obtained for analysis.

Troopers urge the public to remember that adhering to speed limits and wearing seatbelts can greatly reduce the risk of injury or death. Speeding increases the likelihood of losing control and diminishes your ability to react to hazards. Buckling up before you drive and following traffic regulations can make a crucial difference in keeping you and your passengers safe.
