Hamilton Township, NJ, November 6, 2024 - Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton (RWJUH Hamilton), an RWJBarnabas Health facility, and its Orthopedic Center of Excellence recently received reaccreditations by The Joint Commission (TJC), the nation's largest health accreditation agency, for Advanced Certification in Spine Surgery, Advanced Total Hip & Knee Replacement, and Primary Stroke Center Certification.
The TJC assesses continuous quality improvement efforts in patient safety and quality of care in a variety of health care settings. For its reaccreditation, TJC evaluated RWJUH Hamilton against performance standards across several dimensions, including emergency management, environment of care, infection prevention and control, leadership, medication management and rights and responsibilities of the individual. The TJC also conducted on-site observations and interviews of staff and patients.
"This reaccreditation from TJC reflects the quality-of-care RWJUH Hamilton provides and proves we are committed to ensuring the best experience for our patients from pre-operative education through their surgery and recovery and post-stroke recovery and rehabilitation," says Lisa Breza, RN, MSN, NEA-BC, Chief Administrative Officer for Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton. "I was also very proud to hear the TJC surveyors witnessed first-hand our team's ability to handle multiple simultaneous code strokes during their visit, including our nursing team's deep personal connection to their stroke patients as a critical part of enabling recovery and their return to health."
RWJUH Hamilton's Joint & Spine Surgery Program offers a comprehensive approach to care, including pre-operative education classes to help prepare its patients for surgery and recovery. The care team consists of world-class orthopedic surgeons who have extensive experience in performing surgeries and utilize advanced robotic, minimally invasive technologies; an Orthopedic Program Coordinator, a registered nurse certified in orthopedics, facilitates all aspects of a patient's care; an inpatient care unit, the Center for Orthopedic and Spine Health, staffed with nurses and therapists specially trained in caring for patients who have undergone total knee or hip surgery or spine surgery; as well as case management services to assist in preparing orthopedic patients to return home.
"These specific certifications are examples of excellence and are a testament to the outstanding, multi-disciplinary team of specialists and their commitment to meeting the highest national standards that can significantly improve outcomes for our patients," says Seth Rosenbaum, MD, MMM, Chief Medical Officer. "Our goal is to help patients get back to their normal activities and everyday life, and for our stroke patients, getting the right treatment to help restore as much function as possible and enjoy a better quality of life."
