The pledge supports Turner's 2030 vision to reflect the diversity of our communities at every level of our company.

Turner Construction Company signed the United States Department of Commerce's Million Women in Construction Community Pledge. The Pledge encourages companies to build on their workforce development and recruiting efforts to broaden opportunities for women in the construction industry.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 10.9% of workers in the construction industry in the United States are women. The Million Women in Construction initiative aims to double that number over the next decade. Turner has long been creative and intentional in addressing this need and reaching out to all people who have historically been underrepresented in the industry.

Turner is active with a New York-based organization Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW). NEW prepares, trains, and places women in careers in the skilled construction trades. The organization provides a pipeline of qualified workers and helps women achieve economic independence and a secure future for themselves and their families.

Turner has established partnerships with organizations that support diverse recruiting and professional development. These organizations include the National Society for Black Engineers, Society of Women Engineers, Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, the Society of Asian Scientists & Engineers, and Out for Undergrad.

Turner's own YouthForce program and participation in the ACE Mentor Program provide students with the opportunity to build interest in the industry. The programs are dedicated to fostering an industry that is diverse and inclusive. Since tracking began in 2017, Turner has introduced over 41,000 students to the possibilities that a career in construction has to offer.

Turner is a founding member of AEC Unites, an initiative seeking to inspire, promote, and spur equity and inclusion in the AEC industry for Black talent and Black-owned businesses.

Turner is a founding member of Construction Inclusion Week. Construction Inclusion Week channels the collective power of general contractors, specialty contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers to raise awareness and improve diversity and inclusion in the construction industry.

Employee Resource Groups (ERG) support an inclusive environment. Over 3,000 employees are members of an ERG, including the Women's Network and the Mosaic Network, an ERG that empowers the career advancement of diverse employees and fosters equity through awareness, advocacy, and intentional actions.

"We create a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone can be at their best, be authentic, and be treated with respect and dignity," said Peter Davoren, President and CEO, Turner Construction Company. "Signing the Pledge reflects our commitment to reflect the communities where we live and work, at all levels of our company."

In recognition of diversity and inclusion efforts, Turner was awarded the inaugural Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Award from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat for our 2030 vision to reflect the diverse communities in which we build and to achieve equal representation at all levels of the company. Turner also received an Award of Excellence from the Council for its workforce development program that seeks to increase diverse talent in the company and the construction industry. Turner was also named a Best Employer for Diversity by Forbes and Newsweek.
