Council Meeting Recap: Water line replacement, new HVAC equipment at CUTX Event Center

Allen City Council met on Tuesday, July 23. Read on for the highlights and approved projects. The full agenda and meeting video are available here.

Aging water lines in Timbercreek and Allenwood neighborhoods to be replaced

Construction work in the Timbercreek and Allenwood neighborhoods will soon begin after Councilmembers approved $6.861 million for the project, which includes replacing aged water lines and pavement.

The water lines in both the Allenwood and Timbercreek neighborhoods need replacement. In Allenwood, complete pavement replacement will also take place. A citywide study performed in 2022 determined the condition of Allen's roads. The study found roadways in the Allenwood neighborhood were in below average condition and would soon need to be replaced. In Timbercreek, pavement repairs will only be necessary where the new waterlines will be installed. A public meeting with the affected homeowners is scheduled for the evening of August 22 to share details.

This water line replacement project follows a long list of similar ones that have occurred over the past 20 years in such neighborhoods as Whis-Lynge, Fountain Park, Windridge and Hillside. Flow-Line Construction, a contractor that has worked for the city recently, was selected for the work after a public bid process.

In addition to this work in these neighborhoods, several water valve replacements are included elsewhere in the city - one at the intersection of McDermott and Cedar, and seven along Angel Parkway, south of Main Street. Bundling related work like this allows the City to save money when sending out bids for work.

Credit Union of Texas Event Center HVAC system to be updated

Councilmembers have approved the replacement of several components of the HVAC system at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center.

The Allen Community Development Corporation (CDC) will fund this purchase for $586,000.

Road repairs approved for Green Meadow Circle and Heather Glen Circle

The asphalt surfaces on Green Meadow Circle and Heather Glen Circle will be replaced after councilmembers approved a $131,225 road rehabilitation project.
