German Chief of Cyber and Information Domain Service Receives Prestigious Military Award

German Chief of Cyber and Information Domain Service (CIDS) Vice Admiral (VADM) Dr. Thomas Daum was conferred Singapore's prestigious military award, the PingatJasa Gemilang (Tentera) or Meritorious Service Medal (Military) [MSM(M)], by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Zaqy Mohamad presented the award to VADM Daum at an investiture held at the Ministry of Defence this afternoon.

VADM Daum was conferred the award in recognition of his significant contributions towards fostering the strong and substantive defence relations between Singapore and Germany. Bilateral defence cooperation in the digital, cyber and information domains has grown under his leadership. VADM Daum was also instrumental in furthering practical cooperation in the cyber domain through his support for a Singapore-Germany joint team for Exercise Locked Shields in April 2024. Both sides also interact frequently through regular high-level visits, defence cyber exercises and subject matter expert exchanges. These interactions have enhanced the quality of our bilateral training, facilitated capability development, and fostered mutual understanding and camaraderie between the CIDS and the Digital and Intelligence Service (DIS).

VADM Daum is in Singapore from 21 to 27 July 2024 for his MSM(M) investiture and official visit. Prior to the investiture, VADM Daum inspected a Guard of Honour and had meetings with SMS Zaqy, Chief of Defence Force VADM Aaron Beng, and Chief of Digital and Intelligence Service Major-General Lee Yi-Jin. VADM Daum will visit the Cyber Defence Test and Evaluation Centre tomorrow. VADM Daum also delivered the keynote address at the 2nd Digital Defence Symposium (DDS) yesterday and delivered a lecture at the Centre of Excellence for National Security Closed-Door Roundtable on Tuesday.
