CenterPoint Energy Relaunches Outage Tracker

Online interactive tool provides customers with outage information and estimated times of restoration across CenterPoint Energy's Greater Houston electric service area.

​Houston - Aug. 1, 2024 - As part of CenterPoint Energy's commitment to improving its customer and public communications, the company confirmed that it relaunched its Outage Tracker earlier today. The online tool will provide customers with information during storms and is designed to handle increased demand during such events.

"As part of our overall commitment to improve our customer and public communications, we have relaunched our Outage Tracker that will provide better outage information during storms. The new Outage Tracker, which went live today, is designed to meet greater demand and provide more timely updates. Future enhancements and updated functionality of the tool will be guided by customer feedback," said Tony Gardner, CenterPoint Energy's Chief Customer Officer.

The Outage Tracker can be accessed at CenterPointEnergy.com/OutageTracker and includes the following features:

  • Improved reliability: The Outage Tracker uses cloud-based technology, allowing it to be scalable for growth and accessible during periods of high demand.
  • Timely, consistent updates: The data in Outage Tracker is updated every 5 minutes to provide the most up-to-date details on outages.
  • Weather information: The Outage Tracker features weather conditions. The weather function can be used to better understand how weather may be impacting the system and affecting outages.
  • Mobile friendly: Displays the information in an easy-to-read format on a phone or tablet.
  • Summary reporting: Users can view a summary of outages by county, city and zip code to better understand regional impact.
  • Estimated restoration feature: The estimated restoration feature in the outage description pop-up box provides the estimated time of restoration (ETR) for the impacted outage area.
  • Satellite view: The option to switch from a default "street view" to a "satellite view" is available in the layers section of the left side bar. This option can help users better understand the vegetation density in their areas that may affect outages.
In addition to the Outage Tracker as a source for details, customers can stay informed about outages, ETRs and other restoration efforts by enrolling in proactive Power Alert Service®, opting in to company email updates and following our social media platforms.
