Triple Milestone: Cheers to 40 Years of Service

It's noteworthy when an employee reaches 40 years of public service. It's remarkable when three employees in the same division celebrate the milestone together.

Alan C. Plante, Richard Johns, and Carolyn McFadden have dedicated a combined 120 years to Orange County's Division of Building Safety.

"I am so fortunate to have been surrounded by talented individuals throughout my career, which have really helped me aspire," said Plante.

Their tireless efforts, expertise, and unwavering commitment to public service have been integral to ensuring the safety of the residents and businesses of Orange County.

Plante began his remarkable journey on April 9, 1984, in what was then called the Orange County Building Department. He has been a cornerstone of the division's operations for decades, serving in many roles and earning numerous awards and certifications. Plante started as a residential Plans Examiner and later held positions as Chief Plans Examiner, Deputy Building Official, Building Official and currently, Division Manager. His breadth of knowledge, his valued relationships and steadfast commitment to excellence are invaluable to the organization and the countless individuals he has served and inspired throughout his distinguished career.

Johns began his illustrious career with the division on May 14, 1984, and has been an inspector for most of his tenure. He is an advocate for safety and compliance, working tirelessly to uphold the integrity of building codes and regulations. He began his career as a front desk permit technician, and worked as an aluminum inspector before his role as a certified building inspector and plans reviewer. On the importance of the Florida Building Code, Richard shared that the code "makes sure that the buildings are safe for the people to live in, and around the buildings."

McFadden began her tenure with the division on July 16, 1984, as a Clerk Typist. A beacon of professionalism and expertise, she consistently goes above and beyond to ensure the safety and well-being of residents and businesses. Her commitment to public service, volunteerism and community has earned her the admiration and respect of colleagues and customers alike. She volunteers with the Head Start Program, United Way, and has been a part of the Black History committee for more than 20 years. She helps organize its annual gala and many other events. Proceeds from these events support youth scholarship programs.

"I know we are all working. We all must produce, get inspections and permits issued. So, I am proud of our department," said McFadden.
