Introducing New Times Corps Members

We're pleased to announce the third cohort of The New York Times Corps, a talent-mentorship program for undergraduates to develop relationships with and receive career-building advice from Times journalists.

The participants are matched with a Times mentor, with whom they meet several times a year. Their conversations focus primarily on quality career guidance and laying the foundation for success in the field. Speakers and training sessions complete the experience, which spans the student's undergraduate education.

Young journalists face many challenges in trying to establish themselves in the industry. The Times Corps aims to help provide access to quality career guidance to passionate, would-be journalists who otherwise might not have it.

Nikita Stewart, The Times's Real Estate editor, said of her mentee: "I watched a student grow from a journalist learning the basics into a force with a command of breaking news and enterprise. At one point, she even contributed to an important New York Times story because I knew she could handle it. Here's the secret about mentorship: It works both ways. You'll learn as much as the student you counsel."

Upon graduation, students who complete the program travel to New York, where they visit The Times and learn from journalists in person. The highest-performing members might gain acceptance into the Times Fellowship, the newsroom's one-year work program for up-and-coming journalists, or be referred to other newsrooms.

The Times Corps has welcomed nearly 60 students since its launch in 2022. The program aims to attract future journalists from underrepresented groups, such as students of color and/or students from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, and to develop a diverse talent pool both for The Times and the industry at large.

Applications for the fourth cohort will open next spring. Students on track to graduate in 2027, 2028 and 2029 will be eligible. Learn more about the Times Corps and the other early career opportunities at The Times here.
