PROTECTING AMERICAN ELECTIONS FROM NONCITIZEN VOTING AND RESPONSIBLY AVOIDING A GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

With less than 50 days until the election, Congress has two immediate obligations: responsibly fund the government to avoid a costly shutdown and ensure the security of our elections. Today, House Republicans will vote on legislation that does just that. By passing a 6-month continuing resolution with the SAVE Act attached, House Republicans will avoid the bloated Christmas omnibus tradition for the second straight year, while demonstrating our commitment to safeguarding election integrity. The SAVE Act is both good policy and overwhelmingly popular; a 2024 poll found 87% of American citizens believe in requiring proof of citizenship before registering to vote. More than 10 million illegal aliens have been encountered at our borders since Joe Biden and Kamala Harris took office, and the American people rightfully demand that Congress removes the threat of illegals and noncitizens meddling in American elections. Despite the SAVE Act's popularity with the American people, Democrats and their mouthpieces in the media continue to claim that noncitizen voting is both already illegal and not a serious problem. But audits from states like Texas, Virginia, Ohio, and others have found that thousands of noncitizens were registered to vote. And in a time of deeply divided government where every vote counts, Congress must do everything in its power to ensure that only American citizens decide American elections.
MAKE NO MISTAKE: Democrats will oppose today's legislation because they want illegal aliens and noncitizens voting in American elections. That's why they support the Biden-Harris Administration's open border policies. It's the only logical explanation.
FACTS ABOUT THE SAVE ACT (Courtesy of the Office of Speaker Mike Johnson):

• While falsely claiming the 2016 was "stolen" due to "foreign election interference," Democrats ignore the real threat of foreign election interference posed when noncitizens are allowed to register and vote in U.S. elections.
• Lax voter registration laws make it possible for noncitizens to register and vote in federal elections.
• Just because it is already illegal for noncitizens to vote in our elections does not mean that it is not happening, or that it doesn't require simple enforcement. There is ample evidence that noncitizens are registering and voting in U.S. elections:
  • In Texas, since 2021, the state removed over 6,5000 noncitizens from its voter rolls. The state also discovered that 1,930 noncitizens (29% of identified noncitizens on state voter rolls) had voted in a U.S. election.
  • In Virginia, since Gov. Youngkin took office, the state discovered and removed more than 6,000 noncitizens from its voter rolls.
  • In Ohio, this year, the Secretary of State has identified 597 noncitizens on its voter rolls, including 138 who had cast a ballot.
  • In Oregon, last week, the Department of Transportation revealed it had registered 306 noncitizens voters since 2021.
• The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act (protects our elections by (X thread from Speaker Mike Johnson):
  • Requiring state election officials to ask about citizenship before providing voter registration forms
  • Requiring an individual to provide proof of citizenship in order to register to vote in federal elections
  • Allowing state officials to accept a wide variety of documents that will make it easy for citizens to register to vote in federal elections
  • Providing states with free access to federal agency databases so they can remove noncitizens from voter rolls and confirm citizenship for individuals lacking proof of citizenship
  • Directing DHS to determine whether to conduct removal proceedings if a noncitizen has been identified as having registered to vote in federal elections
  • Requiring DHS to notify a state chief election official whenever an individual has been naturalized to ensure our newest citizens are able to exercise their right to vote
• Congress must pass the CR and SAVE Act legislation to close the loopholes that allows noncitizen registration and, in turn, vote; to enhance election security; minimize the risk of foreign interference; and restore Americans' confidence in U.S. elections.
