Youth Violence Strike Force Recovered a Large Capacity Firearm in Mattapan

At about 12:44 AM, on Friday, July 5, 2024, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested Mekhi Clagon, 19, of Dorchester, on firearm charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Harvard Street and Washington Street. Officers had recently completed a motor vehicle stop, and observed a male individual walk by them talking on his phone. Officers observed the male to be gripping inside his hooded sweatshirt what they believed to be a firearm.

Officers exited their cruiser and approached the male individual, who immediately ran in a full sprint. A foot pursuit ensued and observed the suspect throw a firearm into a small field near Harvard Street and Waterlow Street.

Officers were able to gain control of the suspect, and placed him into handcuffs. The firearm was later determined to be a Smith and Wesson SD9 with one round in the chamber, and ten rounds in the magazine. The firearm was also equipped with a Lightwin flashlight/laser mounted attachment.

Clagon was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Firearm Violation with one prior violent/drug crime. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
