Dr. Micheal Stratton, dean of the J. Whitney Bunting College of Business and Technology, is among the 38-member cohort selected by The American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) for this year's Becoming a Provost Academy (BAPA).

The yearlong leadership development program - offered in partnership with the American Academic Leadership Institute (AALI) - takes place from July 2024 to July 2025. The program kicked off at the AASCU 2024 Summer Meeting for Academic and Student Affairs Leaders in Denver at the end of July, which Stratton attended along with several other faculty and staff representatives from Georgia College & State University.

According to AASCU, "Becoming a Provost Academy offers a rich experience designed to prepare seasoned academic affairs administrators to be effective and successful provosts."

The 2024-2025 cohort is BAPA's largest ever.

"We are proud of the successful leaders BAPA has supported since its inception," said Terry Brown, AASCU's vice president of Academic Innovation and Transformation. "As regional public universities address challenges, we need academic leaders who put students at the center of their decision-making."

Stratton joined Georgia College July 1, 2020, when he was appointed as dean of the College of Business and Technology. Stratton holds a B.A. in Liberal Studies from Western New England University and both an MPA and Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Albany. Prior to Georgia College, Stratton served as both faculty and department chair at the University of North Carolina at Asheville.

Since 2016, 40 BAPA participants have become provosts serving at AASCU member institutions, and 10 have gone on to become presidents or chancellors.

Please join us in congratulating Dean Micheal Stratton for being selected to this prestigious program.
