CenterPoint Energy postpones Sept. 10 Kingwood Community Open House as company remains focused on storm preparation efforts

CenterPoint Energy has activated the company's Emergency Operations Center in response to Tropical Storm Francine; Open house rescheduled for Monday, September 16, 2024

Monday-September-9-2024

Houston - Sept. 9, 2024 - After carefully monitoring the weather throughout the weekend and today, CenterPoint Energy activated the company's Emergency Operations Center as of 8 p.m. CT Sunday, Sept. 8. Because the company remains focused on executing its plan to address the evolving tropical weather situation and formation of Tropical Storm Francine, it is postponing Tuesday evening's Community Open House, which was to be held in Kingwood. The open house will be rescheduled for Monday, September 16

"While we look forward to connecting with our customers in the Kingwood area, CenterPoint's focus this week remains on executing our storm preparations as Tropical Storm Francine continues on its path toward the Texas and Louisiana coasts," said Tony Gardner, Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Officer. "The scheduled open houses remain an important part of our commitment to improving, and we are encouraging all of our customers to join us at the rescheduled date to share their feedback."

The company will continue to carefully monitor Tropical Storm Francine and keep customers and communities informed if there will be any additional changes to the upcoming schedule of open houses.

The company's open house events, which are being held in every county across Greater Houston, are designed to elicit customer feedback concerning the company's response to Hurricane Beryl, as well as to provide a forum to communicate the specific actions CenterPoint is taking to improve future storm response as part of its Greater Houston Resiliency Initiative.

Schedule & Location
The location and schedule for the next open house is as follows: Monday, September 16, 2024, at the Kingwood Community Center, 4102 Rustic Woods Dr, Kingwood, TX 77345. Customers can view the schedule for future open houses by visiting www.CenterPointEnergy.com/OpenHouses.

Greater Houston Resiliency Initiative

Across Greater Houston, CenterPoint is taking action now to improve resiliency and help reduce the risk of outages this hurricane season.

As part of the first phase of its Greater Houston Resiliency Initiative, throughout August CenterPoint crews and contractors installed more than 1,100 stronger and more resilient fiberglass poles, trimmed vegetation along more than 2,000 miles of power lines and installed more than 300 automation devices in neighborhoods all over Houston. The company's next step is taking the boldest series of resiliency actions in its nearly 160-year history, including additional system hardening, strategic undergrounding, self-healing grid technology, and further enhancements to its outage tracker.

In addition to this immediate resiliency work, CenterPoint has completed almost all of the critical actions previously identified as part of its broader GHRI plan, including those with an August deadline.
