Randall Clemens and Amy Kline (center) from the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media were both recently honored for their work in assessment.

The College of Human Development, Culture, and Media's Associate Dean for College Effectiveness Amy Kline, Ed.D., was the recent recipient of two prestigious awards: Watermark's Innovation Award and Seton Hall's Assessment Champion Award.

At Watermark Engage 2024 Conference, Kline was presented with the Watermark Innovation Award. Watermark, a leading higher education software solutions provider, held its annual Engage Conference where it highlights higher education administrators, educators, and stakeholders. Kline was awarded the Innovation Award, given to outstanding achievements, as she was celebrated for her leadership in implementing Student Learning & Licensure, showcasing her commitment to providing excellence for students.

"Amy Kline is a true champion for innovation on her campus who strongly believes that good data is the fuel for continuous improvement and student success," said Watermark's Client Success Manager Greg Waters. "We are grateful to work alongside partners like Amy and her colleagues, who care deeply about providing excellence to current and future students."

"I am honored to work with such a dedicated community of educators and learners. These two awards highlight the commitment we have all made to rigorous and meaningful assessment, with the goal of ongoing improvement of our high-quality academic programs," said Kline.

Kline led the College through its implementation of the Student Learning & Licensure assessment management system, designed to organize, collect and analyze student learning data to meet multiple external and internal reporting needs. Integrated with the University's single sign-on and secure databases, this system laid the foundation for a College-wide quality assurance system focused on improving student learning outcomes, resulting most recently in a successful national accreditation review by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation.

During the University's Celebration of Faculty Excellence on Monday, April 22, Kline was also presented with the Assessment Champion Award alongside Randall Clemens, Ph.D., associate professor and chairperson of the Department of Education Leadership, Management and Policy. This award celebrates individuals who have made exceptional contributions to nurturing a culture of improvement within the University. Recipients of this honor are dedicated advocates who understand the significance of gathering evidence, embracing reflective practices, and inspiring others to actively engage in the assessment process.

Clemens and Kline were recognized for their dedication in developing and leading a pilot project to create department-level student learning outcomes in collaboration with the College's Department of Education Leadership, Management and Policy. The newly developed student learning outcomes will be used to unify and assess the academic programs of the department and have inspired assessment conversations across all four departments of the College, contributing to its strong culture of assessment.

With these dual honors, Kline is a two-time assessment award recipient in 2024. "Congratulations to Kline for her fantastic achievements and the collaborative work we are embarking on at Seton Hall University," said Bryan Crable, Ph.D., founding dean of the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media.
