Highway 14 Reconstruction Project

The Iowa Department of Transportation is still busy with the Highway 14 project and is now moving north toward Newton. Highway 14 will be closed from South 24^th Ave. W to South 60^th Ave W for approximately 4 weeks for road reconstruction. If you live off Highway 14 or need to get to the Newton Sanitary Landfill, don't worry - Inroads, the contractor, will provide access via the shoulder of the road. For thru-traffic heading south to Monroe, Knoxville, etc., there's a marked detour route using Iowa 163, Iowa 117, and I-80 while the road is closed. Remember to drive cautiously, obey the speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. Stay alert, keep space between vehicles, and always wear your seatbelt! The City and Jasper County are sharing info on behalf of the state, as this is a state project.
