Southwestern Power Administration (Southwestern or SWPA) hydro powers customers in Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas with clean, renewable, and reliable hydroelectric power.

This year, we celebrate National Hydropower Day on August 24, 2024, and embrace the theme "Hydro Powers" to mark the many ways Southwestern contributes on a National level.

Southwestern hydro powersits customers by marketing and delivering cost-based, wholesale power and energy generated from 24 multi-purpose hydroelectric projects owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps).

Southwestern hydro powers 113 not-for-profit organizations which pass the many benefits of hydropower to over 10 million electricity users in Southwestern's marketing area.

Southwestern hydro powers clean energy, saving the American people the equivalent of 9.7 million barrels of oil, 3.0 million tons of coal, or 42.8 billion cubic feet of natural gas every year.

Southwestern hydro powers grid resiliency & reliability, providing dependable capacity, voltage support during emergencies, and the ability to respond quickly to meet consumer needs.

Southwestern hydro powers infrastructure investment, overseeing a program with its customers and the Corps that has provided nearly $1.2 billion in funding to keep hydropower equipment in service.

For over 80 years, Southwestern has worked with its regional and National partners to keep hydropower flowing. We are proud to be part of the community that hydro powers America.
