AHN Cancer Institute Expands Integrative Oncology Services to Allegheny General Hospital

PITTSBURGH - The Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute (AHNCI) is proud to announce the expansion of its Integrative Oncology program to Allegheny General Hospital (AGH). AHNCI will host an open house for its new Integrative Oncology clinic at the AGH Cancer Institute (314 E. North Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15212) on Wednesday, July 31, from 12:30-2:30 p.m.

Visitors are invited to tour the new Integrative Oncology clinic, meet staff and volunteers, and learn about the complimentary care programs offered to cancer patients.

The Integrated Oncology clinic at AGH will offer patients a holistic approach to cancer care, emphasizing the integration of mental, physical, social, and spiritual well-being with conventional medical treatments. These services include AHN's existing free wig program, cosmetology and skincare classes (Care & Cosmetics, Caring For Your Skin & Nails), cooking and nutrition lessons (Cook.Eat.Educate.), and Reflections, a complimentary rejuvenation service which offers manicures, pedicures, haircare, massage, reiki, acupuncture, facials, and more.

Led by medical oncologist Sarah Miller, DO, the Integrative Oncology clinic at AHN Cancer Institute is designed to provide patients with a comprehensive care experience, leveraging the expertise of a diverse team of specialists. These experts work collaboratively to create personalized care plans that address all facets of a patient's health, aiming to enhance the quality of life and overall well-being during and after cancer treatment.

The AGH based clinic is the second integrative oncology program site within AHNCI, joining the AHN Wexford Health + Wellness Pavilion location that opened in December 2023.

"Expanding our Integrative Oncology services to Allegheny General Hospital underscores our commitment to delivering patient-centered care," said David Bartlett, MD, chair of the AHN Cancer Institute. "By addressing the full spectrum of a patient's physical, emotional and overall supportive needs, we strive to provide a more compassionate and effective approach to cancer treatment."

This multidisciplinary approach aims to mitigate the side effects of conventional cancer treatment, reducing stress, and improving a patients' overall health outcomes and quality of life.

"Integrative Oncology is about more than just treating the disease; it's about caring for the whole person through the duration of their cancer journey," said Dr. Miller.
