7 Facts about LA County’s Minimum Wage Increase; Now $17.27 per hour

The minimum wage for workers in the unincorporated parts of Los Angeles County is $17.27. Here are seven important facts for every worker, employee, employer, and business owner:

  1. $17.27 per hour now: The $17.27 per hour minimum wage is effective July 1, 2024. This rate applies to individuals who work two hours or more per week at a business or nonprofit in unincorporated LA County.
  2. Every worker and employee: Workers are protected by law. The increase applies to everyone, regardless of immigration status, working in the unincorporated parts of LA County no matter the size of the business.
  3. Free help: The Los Angeles County Department of Consumer and Business Affairs Office of Labor Equity provides workers and employers free resources. These free services help workers understand their rights connected to the minimum wage law and help businesses follow the most current laws.
  4. Many languages: Business owners and nonprofits can visit the Office of Labor Equity website to access resources like required postings in multiple languages.
  5. Getting help: Workers getting paid the wrong wage can file a complaint. After we receive a complaint, we may review records, conduct interviews, and issue a citation to make the employer pay the right wage. Before we initiate any enforcement actions, employers have an opportunity to respond to the allegations.
  6. Help for other types of worker complaints: Retaliation is against the law. The Office of Labor Equity investigates other alleged violations of the law by an employer in addition to enforcing the updated minimum wage law.
