Funds allocated towards initiatives aimed at improving accessibility and sustainability
CINCINNATI -
Cincinnati Metro is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $4,077,236 grant from the Ohio Department of Transportation's (ODOT) Workforce Mobility Partnership Grant. The grant will help Metro purchase new hybrid-electric buses, expand mobility options for those with disabilities, and fund key initiatives to improve accessibility and sustainability.
"Upgrading and improving every aspect of Metro's system leads to a more seamless and enjoyable experience for our riders and the community," said Darryl Haley, CEO of Metro. "These funds will allow us to grow our services further and provide enhanced mobility options for our entire region. We are committed to ensuring that everyone has access to safe, reliable, and sustainable transportation."
The following Metro projects will receive funding:
-
$2,277,600 to replace three diesel-powered transit buses that have reached the end of their useful life. These buses will be replaced with new model year diesel-electric hybrid-powered transit buses, reducing emissions and contributing to a cleaner and greener transportation system.
-
$1,092,000 to purchase seven MetroNow! On-Demand vehicles. This will enhance the flexibility and convenience of the on-demand service as we work to roll out four more zones in the coming year.
-
$381,584 for the purchase of One-Seat Ride Paratransit Equipment, which will greatly benefit individuals with disabilities by providing them with a more convenient and efficient transportation option across seven counties.
-
$326,052 will be allocated towards the One-Seat Ride Paratransit service operations.
Haley added, "The success of our Reinventing Metro vision relies on vital support from partners like ODOT, which helps us strengthen connections, boost economic development, and provide more opportunities to improve quality of life."
