DOE Awards New Contract for Elemental Mercury Long-Term Management and Storage

CINCINNATI - Today, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Environmental Management (EM) awarded a contract for elemental mercury long-term management and storage to Waste Control Specialists LLC (WCS) of Andrews, Texas, for a total maximum period of performance of five years with an estimated value of $17.8 million.

This is a new contract effort to acquire the services of a contractor to establish a storage facility with the capability to meet DOE's statutory responsibility for the long-term management and storage of elemental mercury generated within the United States as required by the Mercury Export Ban Act of 2008 (Public Law 110-414), as amended by the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act (Public Law 114-182).

This contract is a hybrid firm-fixed price and indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity performance-based contract with the capability to issue firm-fixed price task orders.

WCS shall provide DOE with a lease-hold interest in the storage facility and shall perform all technical, management and administrative services necessary to ensure the safe and compliant long-term management and storage of elemental mercury waste from multiple domestic sources. The place of performance and location of the storage facility shall be the WCS container storage building located in Andrews, Texas.
