Delta flies U.S. veterans to the 80th anniversary commemorations of the efforts to liberate the Netherlands

Delta partnered with Best Defense Foundation to fly a group of six veterans from the U.S. to the Netherlands to honor the sacrifices made by their comrades and to reflect on the impact of their efforts on liberating Europe.

On the back of Delta's involvement with the Normandy Remembrance services this past summer, the airline has again played a significant role in transporting U.S. veterans to the 80th anniversary commemorations of Operation Market Garden and the Battle of the Bulge, crucial World War II battles that paved the way for the liberation of the Netherlands and Belgium.

Delta partnered with Best Defense Foundation to fly a group of six veterans back to the very battlegrounds where they had fought for freedom eight decades ago. These veterans, with ages averaging 100 years, made the journey from the U.S. to the Netherlands to honor the sacrifices made by their comrades and to reflect on the impact of their efforts on liberating Europe.

"Delta is privileged to play its part in bringing these brave veterans back to Europe as we did in Normandy, and this time, we are proud to bring former soldiers to the Netherlands for a special week of remembrance," said Paul Hassenstab, Director - EMEAI Sales at Delta.

During the five-day program, the King and Queen of the Netherlands met with the veterans and expressed their deep appreciation for their service and sacrifice. The veterans also met senior government officials, military personnel and civilians who continue to show immense gratitude for the role that the U.S. and Allied forces played in their country's freedom.

"Going back to Normandy and now to the Netherlands for the first time in 80 years will remain the most memorable experiences of my life," said WWII veteran Arlester Brown. "From the young Dutch man in tears who asked me to sign his jacket, to the gravestones of the laundry company I served with 80 years ago to the thousands who showed up in the parades to thank us, I am moved with gratitude and the knowledge that we are still remembered. "

Delta has an established program to support our veterans and active military personnel as part of our community engagement work. The airline has a number of initiatives and programs in place to show appreciation of their service.
