Mexico's policy of comprehensive care for women is extended to Asia-Pacific, Africa, and Middle East
  • All of Mexico's diplomatic missions worldwide now apply the VAIM strategy to protect and advocate for women's and girls' rights, focusing on those at risk, facing violence, or in vulnerable situations
  • Missions in these regions join their counterparts in North America, Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean in adopting this policy
  • This marks the completion of the first worldwide initiative to enhance how Mexico's diplomatic and consular network supports women and girls

On Orange Day, the Foreign Ministry's Directorate General of Consular Protection and Strategic Planning announces the expansion of Mexico's policy of comprehensive care and outreach for women (VAIM) to more Mexican missions abroad. This expansion takes into account each country's unique context, the challenges and opportunities facing migrant women and girls, and how their rights and obligations may affect them overseas.

The 33 Mexican missions in Asia-Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East now join the government's commitment to prioritize protecting Mexican nationals abroad, with a focus on women and girls facing risk, violence, and discrimination.

The VAIM strategy provides multifaceted consular support to safeguard women's rights and further their empowerment through comprehensive measures. It views women and girls as rights-holders and catalysts for social change.

This policy brings a gender perspective into all consular services. It offers a coordinated, cross-cutting approach to consular assistance and protection, providing various resources, services, and guidance, particularly for victims of violence.

Introducing VAIM in Asia-Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East will bolster prevention strategies and consular support. It will offer essential resources to improve assistance, coordination with authorities, and access to aid networks, while respecting local legal and cultural contexts. This approach complements the work of regional institutions and authorities defending women's rights.

Mexican nationals, especially women and girls, are encouraged to contact their local consulates and embassies for VAIM details and support.

Through its Directorate General of Consular Protection and Strategic Planning, the Foreign Ministry is improving its preventive, proactive, and comprehensive protection in Asia-Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East to deliver prompt, dignified, and compassionate consular assistance and protection.
