WASHINGTON, D.C. - Families USA, the longtime national health care consumer advocacy organization, released the following statement after Judge Daniel Traynor's preliminary injunction in the lawsuit brought by 19 states challenging the Biden-Harris administration's final rule making DACA recipients eligible for necessary and affordable health care coverage under the Affordable Care Act.
"This ruling is short-sighted, serving not just to exclude around 100,000 Americans from the critical health care and coverage they need, but also harming the health system on which we all rely."
"Our health system is stronger when everyone is included, getting primary and preventive care. These Americans pay taxes, work essential jobs, contribute to our society, and only know the United States as home-and they should have the opportunity to be paying patients in the health plans and hospitals that support our common health."
"Families USA stands in solidarity with Dreamers and other immigrants - who are a vital part of our economy and society. We strongly support the final rule, which we hope ultimately prevails, to ensure nearly 100,000 DACA recipients can access affordable health care coverage through health insurance marketplaces.
"We will continue fighting and working to ensure that everyone, regardless of their income, of immigration status, or the state in which they live, can access the best health and health care."
In 2023, Families USA submitted this comment letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid to ensure health care coverage for DACA recipients.
