Local Government Election procedure

Published on 16 August 2024

The community will vote for MidCoast Councillors at the Local Government Elections on Saturday 14 September 2024.

It is up to the election candidates themselves to campaign, and let the community know who they are and what they stand for. Council cannot legally provide any information about the candidates for the upcoming election on its website or through any other channel. It must remain neutral throughout the election process.

After the candidates are elected by the community, they will form the new Council. Councillors set the strategic direction for the local community. They make decisions and create policies that guide the activities of Council.

Voting is compulsory, so community members will need to attend a voting booth on the day or arrange an alternative voting method in advance. More information is available at https://elections.nsw.gov.au/voters/where-do-i-vote.
