Village of Dresden - Water System Main Replacements

Negative Declaration

Yates County - The Village of Dresden, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Water System Main Replacements will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The aging transmission main and distribution piping has reached it's useful life in the Village. Frequent water main breaks often create emergency conditions for not only stopping the distribution of potable water, but likewise prolonging the residents and businesses from using water on as needed basis, coupled with the unsafe drinking conditions when the main is repaired and disinfected. The Village of Dresden will replace its aging transite (AC) piping with DIP and/or HDPE water mains with a minimum size of 8 inch to support fire flows within the Village. Along with the water main replacement, all valving and fire hydrants will be replaced to provide minimal breakage and repairs. This will reduce the amount of emergency repairs to their system which necessitates contracting with the neighboring Town of Milo to supplement their modest 2 man Public Works Department. Water main breaks and valve failures are not only disruptive to their residents, but a financial and time consuming event which impacts their cost of providing potable water to the residents and out of village customers. Additionally the amended SEQR adds additional water main loops within the system to eliminate dead ends and assist with continued flows and lower aging. The project is located throughout the Village of Dresden, New York.
