Phnom Penh, Cambodia, December 18, 2024-Riccardo Puliti, Regional Vice President for Asia Pacific of IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, visited Cambodia from December 15-17, 2024.
In Phnom Penh, Puliti met with Prime Minister Hun Manet, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Aun Pornmoniroth, and Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, Sun Chanthol. During these meetings, Puliti discussed various topics, including the macroeconomic and fiscal situation in Cambodia in relation to the region, and private sector development to drive the country's sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
Puliti also met with development partners and other stakeholders, including the Cambodian Microfinance Association (CMA) and the Association of Banks in Cambodia (ABC). Among other topics, the discussions covered how the private sector can play a larger role in Cambodia's inclusive and sustainable economic development, and how IFC can support organizations such as CMA and ABC to strengthen Cambodia's financial sector by promoting responsible lending, advancing financial consumer protection practices, and expanding green finance initiatives to provide more funding for small and medium enterprises and foster financial inclusion.
