Visit of the Delegation from Xinhua News Agency, People's Republic of China (Activities in Bangkok, 16 - 18 December 2024)
During 16 - 20 December 2024, the Department of Information, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is hosting a delegation from Xinhua News Agency, People's Republic of China, as part of a long-standing Exchange Programme between the two sides, which began in 1987. This is the first visit after the COVID-19 pandemic. The delegation is led by Mr. Li Yin, Director-General, Xinhua News Agency, Yunnan Bureau, and includes representatives from Xinhua's headquarters, various regional bureaus in China, and the Bangkok Bureau.
While in Bangkok from 16 - 18 December 2024, the delegation paid a courtesy call on Mr. Chettaphan Maksamphan, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, and had a meeting with Mr. Nikorndej Balankura, Director - General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During these engagements, both sides reaffirmed the important role and strong cooperation between media from both countries to advance relations, particularly within the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework and in preparation for the 50th Anniversary of Thailand - China Diplomatic Relations in 2025, which is designated the "Golden Jubilee for Thailand-China Friendship". Both sides also exchanged views on issues such as communication and New Media in the digital age, news reporting on Thailand - China relations in various dimensions and areas including economic and socio-cultural cooperation, updates on current priorities, and future opportunities for cooperation.
The delegation also joined a networking lunch to enhance collaborative linkages with Thailand's professional journalistic bodies, namely the National Press Council of Thailand, and the Thai Journalists Association. They also paid a visit to TNN Channel 16 television station, sharing experiences and perspectives on modern media operations. This visit has contributed greatly to the strengthening of ties between the Ministry and relevant organisations with Xinhua News Agency, one of China's largest media agencies with worldwide coverage and a strong global reputation.
