Youth Violence Strike Force Recovers Firearm, Arrests Suspect During Dorchester Traffic Stop

At 6:26 PM, on Wednesday, October 23rd, 2024, Officers and Mass. State Troopers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force (YVSF) arrested 34-year-old Davaughn Talbert, of Dorchester during a traffic stop located at 130 Bowdoin St., Dorchester.

Officers were patrolling Bowdoin St. and Geneva Ave. when they observed a vehicle being operated that had excessively tinted windows. Officers conducted a query on the vehicle which also revealed that the vehicle was unregistered. Officers were able to follow the vehicle and activated their emergency lights and sirens to conduct a traffic stop at 130 Bowdoin St.

Officers approached the vehicle and identified the operator and a passenger, later identified as Talbert, not wearing a seatbelt. Officers spoke with and requested identification from both occupants to conduct a query. The query revealed the operator to be unlicensed. While the traffic stop was taking place, Officers also observed several characteristics displayed by Talbert that indicated he may be in possession of a firearm.

Officers conducted an investigation and recovered a firearm from inside Talberts pants. Detectives responded and determined the firearm to be a black Glock26 9X19 with a large capacity magazine inserted in it, and it was loaded with fifteen (15) 9mm live round cartridges. The firearm did not have a live round cartridge in the chamber.

The operator was summoned to appear in court for Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a License and was issued a Mass Uniform Citation for various motor vehicle infractions.
Davaughn Talbert was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court for the charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Carrying a Loaded Firearm.
