Pots that Develop and their contribution to nutrition

  • On World Food Day, we remember the fundamental work of common pots in the fight against food insecurity.
  • Through the Alicorp program in alliance with Juguete Pendiente, more than 42 million food rations have been delivered.

Accessing quality food in a timely manner continues to be a challenge for millions of Peruvians who, for different reasons, find themselves in a vulnerable situation. This October 16, food day, is a date to learn about the work carried out by the Pots that Develop program in favor of those who participate and are fed through common pots.

This program, launched in 2022, is a key initiative to serve thousands of families who, after the pandemic, found in common pots a supportive response to the lack of work and food opportunities.

"Ollas que Desarrollan has a comprehensive approach that not only consists of the delivery of food, but also the equipment and training of the leaders of the common pots to guarantee their sustainability. Through this program, more than 42 thousand people have benefited and more than 4 million 200 thousand food rations have been delivered in 432 common soup kitchens in 9 regions of the country," said Malena Morales, vice president of Corporate Affairs at Alicorp.

The impact of the program is amplified with the training of more than 1,200 women leaders in nutrition, health, and financial management, achieving that 40% of the soup kitchens offer healthy menus, an increase of 22 percentage points since 2022. This progress has been vital for the prevention of anemia, especially in the most vulnerable communities.

Food and prevention

In 2024, the program launched a pilot focused on the prevention of anemia, one of the main public health problems in Peru, which mainly affects children and older adults. Thanks to an alliance with Juguete Pendiente, Pacífico Seguros and the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences (UPC), 14 common pots were established in Lurín where anemia screenings were carried out and the leaders were trained in the creation of menus rich in iron and nutrients essential.

In this regard, Malena Morales, Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Alicorp comments: "At Alicorp we firmly believe that food security is a national priority. Through Pots that Develop, we have not only managed, through training for common pots, to improve the quality of the food that reaches thousands of families, but we have also empowered women leaders as key agents in the fight against anemia in their communities."

This World Food Day, Alicorp reaffirms its commitment to continue working hand in hand with communities, strategic partners and the leaders of the common pots themselves to strengthen the fight against food insecurity and continuing with its purpose of feeding a better future.
