REDDING - Caltrans announced today its crews will begin work on September 9th to repave a section of State Route 299 (SR 299) near Big Flat in Trinity County, from a half mile east of Skunk Point Campground to the North Fork Trinity River Bridge.

Fully funded by Senate Bill 1 (the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017), the $3.66 million project will significantly improve the ride for motorists and freight carriers between the Central Valley and the coast.

"This stretch of SR-299 establishes a critical link between the northern Central Valley and the state's north coast," said Caltrans District 2 Director Dave Moore. "This project and funding from SB 1 will help keep this connection available for residents and visitors for years to come."

Once work begins, motorists should plan for one-way traffic control with up to 10-minute delays, Mondays - Fridays between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. Striping, guardrail, and shoulder work will also be included on the project. No work will be conducted on bridge decks in the project area. J.F. Shea Construction, Inc. is the lead contractor on the project, which is currently anticipated to be completed by mid-October.

Motorists are reminded that the law requires them to slow down, obey temporary speed limit reductions, and drive carefully in and around construction areas.

SB 1 provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually shared about equally between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly thanks to the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1.
