DEC Announces Limited Hours and Temporary Closure of Lower Locks Between Second Pond and Oseetah Lake for Emergency Repair

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today announced a temporary limit in operations for DEC's lower locks between Second Pond and Oseetah Lake, Franklin County, until the locks' manual operation mechanism is repaired. Hand operation of the lower locks is currently broken, and boaters cannot operate the locks themselves. However, boaters may move through the locks during the staffed hours of 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, through Monday, Sept. 9. The lower lock repair is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 10, during which time the lower locks will be closed to all users. The hand carry around the locks remains open.

Please contact DEC Region 5 at (518) 897-1310 for more information.
