Rhode Island Energy Foundation awards more than $265,000 to support Rhode Island community initiatives

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (December 3, 2024) - The Rhode Island Energy Foundation (RIE Foundation) is pleased to announce that it is awarding $267,500 in funding to support 24 nonprofit organizations working to improve the lives and well-being of individuals throughout the Ocean State.

The RIE Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization funded by shareowners of PPL Corporation, Rhode Island Energy's parent company. Since 2022, the organization has awarded over $1 million in grants to organizations across Rhode Island.

"The RIE Foundation is so proud to support the tremendous efforts of the nonprofits in the communities where we work and live," said Greg Cornett, president of Rhode Island Energy and an officer of the RIE Foundation. "These 24 organizations have demonstrated their focus on inspiring change and expanding opportunities for Rhode Islanders - and we know our contributions will help to bolster their important work."

The Empowering Communities grants program supports organizations across communities served by Rhode Island Energy. The program funds organizations focused on education; diversity, equity and inclusion; and sustainable communities.

The RIE Foundation's latest investments will support various initiatives including basic necessities for temporary housing, literacy improvement programs, youth development and employment, early college access and out-of-school programs, from STEM-based education to urban environmental initiatives.
