A man will face court after being charged after an alleged public place shooting in Sydney's southwest last night.

About 11.05pm yesterday (Thursday 25 July 2024), police were called to Sixteenth Avenue, Austral, following reports gunshots had been heard in the vicinity.

A short time later, police received further reports a vehicle had crashed on Craik Avenue, before two men allegedly ran from the scene.

On arrival, officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command found bullet casings and a fuel cannister inside the abandoned vehicle.

Enquiries revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen.

With assistance from the Dog Unit, an empty pistol magazine was found on Seventeenth Avenue.

About 11.35pm, police located a 30-year-old man on Fourth Avenue, Austral.

He was taken to Liverpool Police Station where he was charged with four offences - fire firearm at dwelling house with disregard for safety, possess loaded firearm in a public place, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner and dishonestly interfere with vehicle identifier.

The man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 27 July 2024).
