Mercedes Florez - Animal Care & Control

"On my way to work, I noticed a dog sitting at a rest stop on Highway 79. This section of the road has fast traffic, as the speed limit is 65. It is unknown how the dog ended up at this rest stop in the middle of nowhere, but as a passerby, I knew he needed to be rescued from this dangerous situation. When I contacted Animal Care & Control, they immediately asked for the milepost and pictures to help the officer find the dog.

That information was shared with Mercedes, who made it her mission to secure the dog. It took a few days and attempts to rescue him, but she successfully saved him with her commitment, teamwork, and flexibility. The effort and heart it takes to save an animal shows Mercedes' accountability and integrity in ensuring animal safety in Pinal County."
