November Economic Outlook Conference

As Napa continues to evolve economically, the Chamber of Commerce is taking proactive steps to keep our business community informed and engaged. We sat down with Jeri Hansen, CEO of the Napa Chamber of Commerce, to discuss the upcoming 2nd Annual Economic Outlook Conference.

Q: Why create this conference series in the first place?

Jeri Hansen: This conference actually has historical roots in our community. We're reviving a tradition that many in our business community have missed. Personally, I felt there was a need for a comprehensive look at broader economic factors affecting our region, along with a local interpretation of these factors. The spark for reviving this series came when I saw Dr. Christopher Thornberg of Beacon Economics speak at a conference. His insights were so compelling that I knew he would be the perfect centerpiece for our renewed event. We're thrilled to have him returning this year as our keynote speaker.

Q: What are you most excited about for this year's event?

Jeri Hansen: It's hard to pick just one thing - the entire program is exciting! But if I had to choose, I'd say I'm most looking forward to the big public reveal of the first phase of research that will inform the Chamber's Business Retention, Expansion and Attraction Plan. We've commissioned Beacon Economics to craft this report and blueprint for us. Conference attendees will be among the first to see it, which is really exciting. This plan will be crucial in shaping our economic strategies moving forward.

Q: What are you hoping is one key takeaway that conference attendees can leave with?

Jeri Hansen: I want attendees to understand the critical importance of advocacy in informing policy. Napa's relatively small size gives our business community a unique opportunity to have a real seat at the policy-making table. It's an area where I plan to be much more active in the coming years. During the conference, we have a section called "Advocacy to Action," which will be led by Tracy Hernandez, the CEO of the New California Coalition. We'll explore examples of successful advocacy efforts in other communities, which I'm sure will inspire everyone in the room. My hope is that attendees will leave feeling empowered to engage more actively in shaping policies that affect our local economy.

The Napa Chamber of Commerce's 2nd Annual Economic Outlook Conference promises to be an insightful event, offering valuable perspectives on our economic future and empowering our business community to play an active role in shaping it. Whether you're a business owner, community leader, or engaged citizen, this conference offers a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Napa's economic landscape and the forces shaping it. Register today to attend this year's conference!
