Join us on Saturday, October 26 at 10:00 a.m. to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Effigy Mounds National Monument with the signing of the executive order by Harry S. Truman on October 25, 1949.

Effigy Mounds National Monument was preserved thanks to the hard work of many Iowans and began with 1000 acres donated by the State of Iowa for its establishment.

The day will begin with an honoring of the flags of the 19 affiliated tribal nations followed by short speeches and a keynote talk by Dale Henning Ph.D. Dale will share his remembrances of times before and after the monument's establishment. A reception will follow and after that visitors can earn our new 75th anniversary junior ranger badge as well as learn about our new hiking challenge. At 12:30 pm park staff will have four special tours to Yellow River boardwalk, Fire Point, Marching Bears and Sny Magill and visitors can earn their first hiking challenge reward.
