Presidential Office Held a Discussion with International Partners on Assistance to Ukraine’s Energy Sector

Deputy Heads of the Office of the President Oleksiy Kuleba and Rostyslav Shurma held a regular briefing on overcoming energy challenges.

It was attended by Members of the Government, representatives of Regional Military Administrations, local authorities and international partners - diplomatic missions of the United States, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Finland, Poland, the Czech Republic, Japan, Canada, Italy, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Lithuania, the EU Delegation and international organizations, as well as 16 ambassadors of Ukraine.

During the briefing, the participants discussed the needs of our energy sector and preparations for the heating season.

"It is crucial that international partners continue taking effective steps to overcome the consequences of the Russian attacks and help restore Ukraine's energy system. I am sincerely grateful to everyone who is involved in supporting our country," said Oleksiy Kuleba.

German Galushchenko, Minister of Energy, provided detailed information on the need for equipment to restore the damaged generation and projects for the distribution of energy sources. In particular, Ukraine needs almost 370 modular boiler stations with a total capacity of 994 MW and more than 380 generators for thermal power generation. Installation of cogeneration units in enterprises of this sector can develop up to 2 GW of electricity.

German Galushchenko also spoke about the Headquarters for Operational Response to the Situation in the Energy Sector. Currently, the working groups are focused on repair and restoration of energy infrastructure, development of distributed generation, provision of generators and heat supply issues.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt emphasized that Washington is aware of the risks, which will increase as winter approaches. He noted that partners should join efforts to help Ukraine as soon as possible.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Kuninori Matsuda supported this position, condemned Russian attacks on civilian objects in our country, and noted that Japan will continue its cooperation with partners in projects aimed at supporting Ukraine, particularly in the energy sector.
