*UPDATE* MURDER INVESTIGATION ARREST – 4100 BLOCK OF WILLOW STREET

Homicide detectives have made an arrest regarding the July 18, 2024 murder of Jaiquan Granberry, a 19-year-old resident of Long Beach.

Through their investigation, Homicide detectives identified the suspect as Mathew De Diego, a 19-year-old resident of Long Beach. On July 23, 2024, De Diego was arrested in Long Beach by Special Investigation Division detectives after committing a second murder at the 5900 block of Lime Avenue. He was booked for murder and bail was set at $3,000,000.

On July 25, 2024, Homicide Detectives presented the first case to the Los Angeles District Attorney's office. Today, July 26, 2024, Homicide Detectives will present the second murder case to the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office.

Detectives determined the victim and suspect were both friends and staying together at a local Long Beach hotel. Evidence, including a firearm, has been collected and is currently being processed. The motive for the shooting is still under investigation.

Homicide detectives are investigating the murder of a male adult.

On July 18, 2024, at approximately, 3:33 p.m., officers responded to the 4100 block of Willow Street regarding a shooting that had just occurred.

Upon arrival, inside a hotel room, officers found a male adult victim who had been shot in the upper body. Officers began providing medical aid until being relieved by the Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD). LBFD personnel transported the victim to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene to investigate the incident. The motive for the shooting and circumstances of the incident are still under investigation.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner.
