State Police arrest Granville man for possessing defaced handgun

On November 20, 2024, State Police arrested William E. Bailey, 27, of Granville, NY, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third degree, and other Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.

On November 20, 2024, at about 11:44 p.m., Troopers responded to the area of State Route 22 in Granville, NY, for the reports of a suspicious vehicle. Troopers located a disabled vehicle that matched the caller's description and was being operated by Bailey. Bailey was found to possess a loaded handgun on his person illegally. Further investigation determined the serial number on the handgun had been intentionally removed. The firearm was seized, and Bailey was taken into custody.

Bailey was transported to SP Granville for processing. He was then brought to the Washington County Correctional Facility to await arraignment.
