COONS COLLECTS JACK HEWITT CLASSIC AT WAYNESFIELD

Waynesfield, Ohio (July 3, 2024)………The names "Coons" and "Hewitt" are among the most recognizable in the USAC history books.

On Wednesday night at Ohio's Waynesfield Raceway Park, Cale Coons delivered his second USAC Midwest Thunder SpeeD2 Midget victory of the season at the 15th edition of the Jack Hewitt Classic.

Coons (Greencastle, Ind.), the son of USAC Triple Crown champion Jerry Coons Jr., became the third different frontrunner of the 20-lap feature on lap 14 after taking over the top spot from Luke Hall, then led the final seven circuits en route to the victory.

Hall (Findlay, Ohio) led laps 8-13 and went on to finish as the runner-up behind Coons. Reigning series champion Zach Wigal (Belpre, Ohio) took third. Tate Martz (Rushville, Ind.) led the opening seven laps before going on to finish fourth. VMS Motorsports Fast Qualifier Jakeb Boxell (Zanesville, Ind.) rounded out the top-five.

With the victory, Coons surged into the USAC Midwest Thunder SpeeD2 Midget championship point lead. He now leads by 15 over ninth place finishing Bryce Massingill (Troy, Ohio).
