Treasurer Stacy Garrity and Sen. Scott Martin Return Nearly $27,000 in Unclaimed Property to Residents of Lancaster County

Lancaster, PA - Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity and Sen. Scott Martin (R-13) today announced that nearly $27,000 in unclaimed property is being returned to residents of Lancaster County following Sen. Martin's annual Senior Expo.

Residents of Sen. Martin's Senate district stopped by Treasury's table at his Senior Expo, where they were helped in their search for unclaimed property by Treasury's outreach team. As a result of the event, $26,905.55 worth of unclaimed property is in the process of being returned to the nine individuals identified as the rightful owners.

Unclaimed property can include dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, forgotten safe deposit boxes, and much more. State law requires businesses to report unclaimed property to Treasury after three years of dormancy.

Treasury is working to return more than $4.5 billion in unclaimed property to its rightful owners - including over $68 million owed to residents of Lancaster County. The average claim is worth about $1,600, and more than one in ten Pennsylvanians is owed unclaimed property.
