BHSU CENTER FOR CIVIC ENGAGEMENT TO HOST EVENING WITH CONSTITUTIONAL EXPERT JEFFREY ROSEN

The Center for Civic Engagement at Black Hills State University (BHSU) is pleased to announce an upcoming event featuring Jeffrey Rosen, President and CEO of the National Constitution Center. The event, titled "The History and Future of the American Idea," will take place Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 6-7:00 p.m. at the Recital Hall in Meier Hall.

This event is the first hosted by the newly established BHSU Center for Civic Engagement, which aims to promote civic education, programming, and engagement among students and the community.

Jeffrey Rosen, a distinguished author and legal expert, will share his insights on the American idea and its evolution throughout history.

Rosen, in addition to his role as President and CEO of the National Constitution Center, is a professor of law at the George Washington University Law School and a contributing editor of The Atlantic. Rosen is also the host of "We the People," a weekly podcast of constitutional debate. He was previously the legal affairs editor of The New Republic and a staff writer for the New Yorker.

He has authored several books, including the New York Times bestseller "Conversations with RBG: Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Life, Love, Liberty, and Law," as well as biographies of Louis Brandeis and William Howard Taft. His latest book, "The Pursuit of Happiness: How Classical Writers on Virtue Inspired the Lives of the Founders and Defined America," explores the influence of classical writers on the Founding Fathers.

"We are very excited to host Mr. Rosen to launch the South Dakota civics initiative," said Dr. Jon Kilpinen, provost at BHSU. "His rich understanding of the Constitution makes him an ideal person to help us reflect on our privileges and responsibilities as citizens."

Admission to the event is free and open to the public.
